Research in Ophthalmology 2021-2022

Research in Ophthalmology (RiO) is a weekly programme of 2-hour Friday seminars running in all three terms. It is led by Dr Neda Minakaran, Clinical Teaching Fellow and Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital. This course aims to complement the UCL MSc Ophthalmology curriculum, and support the learning and assessment objectives outlined in the subspecialty modules. The course has no assessments, but attendance by candidates for the MSc Ophthalmology degree is expected.The programme will combine inspirational talks by clinical academics at Moorfields Eye Hospital, with lectures and workshops that help individuals to develop their own 'research toolkit'. Skills-based lectures will include epidemiology, biostatistics, evidence synthesis, critical appraisal tools, patient reported outcome measures, health economics, and digital innovations in eye health care. Seminars will also explore important aspects of professional and academic life - conflicts of interest, research ethics, discrimination, plagiarism, and persuasive writing/oral presentation.
