IRDR0002: Fundamentals of Emergency and Crisis Planning and Management
Fundamentals of Emergency and Crisis Planning and Management deals with the
basic aspects of the disaster response discipline. These include a broad
survey of the field and its evolution over the last century and a half.
Fundamental concepts such as vulnerability and resilience are explained and
investigated. Emerging issues such as cascading disasters and adaptation to
climatic extremes are discussed. The methodology of emergency planning and
management is presented to the students for use. With the aid of
problem-solving and scenario discussions, the basic building blocks of
emergency response are dealt with. These include emergency supplies and
logistics, warning and evacuation, information management and social media,
and urban search and rescue.
