SOCS0018: Uncertainty in Contemporary Societies 2021/22

Welcome to the Uncertainty in Contemporary Societies:  a psychosocial approach to wellbeing Course PageLife in contemporary societies is characterised by increasing uncertainty – from the personal and local, to the global. Individuals are faced with the challenge of making sense of this uncertainty. This optional module engages with a range of ideas and research from social science that deal with uncertainty, social change, and global transformations. It introduces you to theories and research across a range of domains in psychology, including social, community, environmental, health, positive, and organisational psychology. Building upon first year teaching and learning, you will be encouraged to think broadly about pressing psychosocial issues across these different domains, as well as to reflect upon the intersections between psychology and other social science disciplines (e.g. sociology, economics, environmental studies, public health and epidemiology, public policy, and behavioural science).  In this Moodle page you will find course material, updates about the course and details on assignments.  Please keep an eye on it throughout the course and use it, along with the course handbook, as your main resources.    Module Leaders:      Prof. Ingrid Schoon                  i.schoon@ucl.ac.uk Dr. Lisa Fridkin                         lisa.fridkin.14@ucl.ac.uk Office hours:    Appointments are online: please email to book a time Prof. Ingrid Schoon                 Mondays, 16h-18h Dr. Lisa Fridkin                        Thursdays, 11h-13h             Module Tutors:        Katrina Tavoulari          k.tavoulari@ucl.ac.uk               Groups A, B Dr. Lisa Fridkin              lisa.fridkin.14@ucl.ac.uk          Group C Programme Administration team contact: bsc-socsciences@ucl.ac.uk
