This module aims to deepen participants' understanding of the different purposes of assessment and the underlying theoretical concepts in the field. You'll learn about the broad, central tenets of assessment: summative and formative approaches, and also you will examine these ideas and practices in detail.  Key theory relating to: validity, standards setting, marking, comparability and grading will form one part of module, followed by an exploration of how summative and formation assessments interact with one another in educational settings. Finally you will be introduced to some of the more contemporary thinking in assessment, specifically, new technologies in education, Artificial Intelligence and testing, Assessment literacy and contemporary attitudes to educational assessment both in and out of the classroom.
