BASC0015 Psychology in the Real World

The course is intended to help you to develop the skills to communicate and apply scientific findings in real world settings. The topics chosen reflect the common needs and questions of industry, Govt, sport, banks... Skill #1 is always to get the science right and then ask "how do I communicate this?" and "how can I help people to apply this. Skill #2 is to see the science through other people's eyes. What do people need from you when you write a report/training programme? Skill #3 is to develop your writing skills for audiences that are not academic. Doing this properly requires knowing the science better (yes better) than when writing for an academic audience. Skill #4 is being able to select a good question and able to assess whether it has a string scientific basis. The topics are sleep, creativity, learning, decision making, and social groups. The lectures are available on Teams and you can watch them in your own time. More important than the lectures are the discussion and Q and A sessions that will take place at the appointed time for the lectures.
