ITAL0006: Italian Culture during Fascism (21/22)
This module introduces students to Italian culture and society during
Fascism. Students will consider the Fascist policies and practices that
affected education and literary activities, the construction of gender
roles, films and visual art production in Italy in the years 1922-1943.
Through these, students will reflect upon issues of censorship and freedom
of speech, nationalism and internationalism, propaganda, education, and the
relationship between culture and politics. They will also consider how the
historiography on Mussolini’s dictatorship has changed over time and will
develop an awareness of different methods in historical research.
