SERS0005: Use of Russian (Year 1) (2021-22)

The Year 1 (Mode 2) Russian language programme is for students who enter with an A-level in Russian or equivalent. Course SERS0005: Use of Russian (Year 1) aims at developing productive language skills of writing and speaking in Russian. Writing and Oral themes are based on texts from The Routledge Intermediate Russian Reader by Lydia Buravova. The materials include authentic extracts from mass media and literature to ensure maximum exposure to topics relevant to Russian culture, society and history. The assessment of Use of Russian (Year 1) has two parts: Writing skills (40%) a written examination, comprising an abstract to summarize or paraphrase and and an Essay to write related to the topic of the extract. Oral (40%) a 15-minute oral examination, including a presentation on a topic chosen from a range studied during the course, followed by discussion and general conversation.
