This course provides an introduction to contemporary social anthropological research training with an emphasis on the use of digital media, written ethnographic engagement and visual methodologies. The course introduces students to the history of anthropological field work before moving through the various developments that anthropological approaches and methods have undergone over the past 100 years.
Students will engage with practical observational methods, of interview and of audio and or visual documentation as well as ethnographic writing. They will be introduced to the place of ethical considerations in research. Theoretical sessions on methods of documenting and communicating anthropological research (visually, audibly and in written form) will inform a collaborative practical exercise that will constitute the final output - an ethnographic piece of film
